Emergency personnel were called out to perform a rescue from the Courtenay River under the Fifth Street Bridge Wednesday morning.
Courtenay Fire and RCMP responded to a call at approximately 11 a.m. of a person needing assistance, either in, or near the water.
According to Courtenay fire chief Don Bardonnex, by the time fire crews arrived, the man was already out of the water and BC Ambulance and RCMP were performing CPR under the bridge.
The man was carried on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance and transported to the hospital, but emergency crews did not comment on his condition.
