Eight-hour closure planned for Highway 4 detour on June 9

Detour route will be closed starting in the afternoon on Friday, June 9

A detour route in and out of Port Alberni will be closed for a few hours on Friday, June 9.

Mainroad Mid Island Contracting warned that the detour route between Port Alberni and Lake Cowichan will be closed between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. so that crews can recover a vehicle at Francis Lake. Drivers are asked to delay travel, if possible.

Highway 4 east of Port Alberni has been closed for days as a wildfire burns out of control at Cameron Bluffs near Angel Rock. The fire was listed at 180 hectares on BC Wildfire’s website as of Thursday afternoon (June 8). It is expected to remain closed for an undetermined amount of time.
