The crash statistics were updated recently by ICBC. The corporation’s data is from 2022, and is the most recent available.
Top 5 Courtenay intersections:
RYAN ROAD and ISLAND HIGHWAY
The intersection at the corner of Superstore lot saw a total of 59 crashes. Roughly half (28) involved injury or fatality.
LERWICK ROAD and RYAN ROAD
The intersection after the uphill stretch on Ryan Road near North Island Collage saw 40 crashes. Thirteen involved injury or fatality.
CLIFFE AVENUE and 17TH STREET
The intersection near 17th Street bridge saw 30 crashes. Ten involved injury or fatality.
BACK ROAD and RYAN ROAD
The intersection before the uphill stretch to North Island College saw 19 crashes. Seven involved injury or fatality.
ISLAND HIGHWAY and COMOX VALLEY PARKWAY
The intersection and surrounding roads saw 19 crashes in 2022. Thirteen involved injury or fatality.
Top 3 Comox intersections:
COMOX AVENUE and ANDERTON ROAD
The intersection leading to downtown Comox saw nine crashes. Nearly half (four) involved injury or fatality.
ANDERTON ROAD and RYAN ROAD
The intersection outside of Petro-Canada saw nine crashes. Four crashes involved injury or fatality.
ANDERTON ROAD and GUTHRIE ROAD
The intersection outside of Chevron saw nine crashes in 2022. Just over 20 per cent (two) involved injury or fatality.
