The Comox Valley RCMP are currently investigating a report of a threat directed at Lake Trail Middle School.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Comox Valley RCMP and the Comox Valley School District have closed the school while the credibility of the threat is assessed and the investigation is completed.

The Comox Valley RCMP and School District 71 are working together closely as this situation progresses to ensure the safety of all the staff, students, and residents in the area.

RCMP Const. Monika Terragni said it is an isolated incident and there is no indication that any other school has been targeted.

“It is very specific - this threat was directed at Lake Trail,” said Terragni. “We have no information to indicate that any other schools are at risk. If we did, we would have shut those down as well.”

The investigation is in its initial stages and additional information will be released when it becomes available.
