The 21 days for the City of Parksville to respond to a group opposed to a supportive housing project at 222 Corfield St. South has lapsed, with the group’s lawyer saying the city has asked for more time.

Lawyer Mark Sager filed a petition in the Supreme Court of B.C. in Nanaimo on behalf of Ron Chiovetti, Adam Fras, Doug O’Brien, Melanie Van Der Stock and Berwick Retirement Communities Ltd.

The petition takes issue with how the city handled the public meeting in the process of rezoning 222 Corfield St. South — a site earmarked for a supportive housing facility.

The petition asks that the rezoning bylaw amendment be made void, and that the petitioners be awarded the costs of the proceeding.

The city had 21 days since being served with the petition to respond. That time has lapsed, confirmed Sager.

The NEWS reached the city’s manager of communications, Deb Tardiff, who said it is the city’s policy not to comment when a matter is with its lawyers.
