Tofino was placed under a 48-hour boil water advisory on Monday.
An announcement from Tofino’s district office on May 13 states that the town’s chlorination system failed overnight.
“Water is now being safely treated, however we require a minimum of 48 hours to confirm whether water is safe for consumption,” reads a notice posted to the district’s website Monday morning. “District of Tofino staff are continually monitoring the water supply system and working with Island Health to gather information. We will will continue to update the public as the situation evolves.”
The notice advises all visitors and residents to boil water for a minimum of two minutes before consuming it or cooking with it. It also includes links to Island Health’s boil water notice information as well as resources for food establishments.
The Westerly News has reached out to Tofino’s Public Works department and will update this story as soon as new information comes in.
