The wonders of the natural world will be brought to the Royal B.C. Museum starting Friday, Feb. 14 with the opening of the annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition.
Now in its 55th year, this global photography competition combines the best established and up-and-coming nature photographers in the world with some of the most beautiful, mysterious and inspiring subjects found on Earth. The result is a highly anticipated annual exhibition which makes its way from London’s Natural History Museum to the special exhibition space at the RBCM in Victoria.
On display will be the winners from this year’s competition, with each photo presented in large backlit displays, accompanied by captions detailing the image’s compelling story. A wide variety of subjects and focus means the images will range from the cute to the awe inspiring to the thought provoking and beyond.

This year’s Grand Title winner comes from Chinese photographer Yongqing Bao and features a Himalayan marmot jumping away in shock from an approaching Tibetan fox. The youth Grand Title category honoured New Zealand photographer Cruz Erdmann, who captured an image of a bigfin reef squid while on a night dive.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year runs until Sunday, March 29. For more information and tickets visit royalbcmuseum.bc.ca.
