Ceramic artist Brianne Siu’s latest exhibit, ‘One on its Own or Together as a Whole,’ explores the concept of colour and play.
According to a release, the Vancouver-based artist is finishing her four-month residency at Nanaimo Ceramic Arts Studio and Gallery, ad will present her solo exhibit from April 28 until May 13 at the studio and gallery on Wallace Street.
“Clay is where I can freely express myself and play around with the colours,” the artist said in the release. “It’s like being able to create like I was a child again.”
The release also noted that while Siu was completing a year-long residency at Medalta in the Historic Clay District in Medicine Hat, she created a set of moulds that she “effectively explored the potential of” during her residency in Nanaimo.
Although she has only been living in the city for a short time, Siu noted the sense of community she has felt since her residency began. The title of her exhibit mirrors how the Nanaimo Ceramic Arts Studio and Gallery has allowed for many individual artists to come together and form a clay community.
An opening reception for ‘One on its Own or Together as a Whole’ will be held at 140 Wallace St. on Friday, April 28, from 6-8 p.m.
