The Victoria Seed Library’s 2022 season is in full bloom, and program organizers are inviting budding members to put down roots.
Organizers with the LifeCycles Project Society are hosting a slate of free orientation sessions in early 2022 for Greater Victoria residents interested in learning about the fundamentals of seed saving. On Feb. 24, March 30 and April 26 residents can attend one-hour virtual sessions to qualify for membership.

The program, created in partnership with the Greater Victoria Public Library, hosts over 200 varieties of seeds that member residents can grow and save. The donation-based collection includes vegetable, flower, herb and native plant seeds.
Seed libraries have a myriad of benefits, allowing residents to “protect and promote biodiversity in our region, develop a regionally adapted seed stock and ensure seeds can profit everyone,” the LifeCycles website explains.
Green-thumbed Greater Victorians interested in learning more or donating seeds to the program can attend weekly Seed Swaps every Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. outside the GVPL Central Branch (735 Broughton St.) starting Feb. 26.
