Westshore Rebels general manager, Jonathan Poppitt, resigned from his position with the club that he has been with for more than two years.
He will be turning his attention to coaching with the Greater Victoria Minor Football Association junior bantam team this spring, and will be assuming a new position as head coach of the Spectrum Thunder junior varsity team this fall.
“It has been a great experience to work with the Westshore Rebels and I will continue to be a huge fan. However, balancing my passion for coaching, family and my business, it doesn’t leave much time for the commitment that is needed for a general manager,” Poppitt said.
President of the Rebels, Rob Lervold, will step into the GM role to ensure the operations of the organization continue to run smoothly.
Lervold played quarterback from 1987 to 1988 for the Rebels (formerly Payless). After completing his junior football career, he made Victoria his home. He completed a B.A. in economics from the University of Victoria and is currently a manager at Coast Capital Savings Credit Union.
“We would like to thank Jonathan for his contribution to the team last season and wish him all the best in his coaching career. We have exciting things planned for the 2018 football season and I look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationship with our alumni, sponsors, and community partners,” Lervold said. “It is important that we continue to put a great product on the field and provide an exciting experience for our fans.”
