Vancouver Island University’s volleyball teams showed resolve to start the new year.
Both the women’s and men’s Mariners teams swept their matches against the Camosun Chargers on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10-11, as a new semester got underway in the Pacific Western Athletic Association.
VIU’s women went to five sets in their first PacWest match of the new year, eventually prevailing 25-19, 23-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-11. The next day’s rematch went four sets with the M’s winning 25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16.
The weekend went similarly for the VIU men, who also had to gut out a five-set victory in their first action of 2025. The M’s men won 25-22, 24-26, 20-25, 25-22, 15-12 that night, then won the next day’s rematch 25-22, 25-18, 18-25, 25-22.
The teams visit the Columbia Bible College Bearcats in Abbotsford this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 17-18.
