Westshore’s Sgt. David Vunic won gold at the 2023 World Police & Fire Games in Winnipeg

A West Shore Mountie swapped his uniform for a cycling jersey as he rode his way to gold at the 2023 World Police & Fire Games, held in Winnipeg from July 28 to Aug. 6.

Sgt. David Vunic is a lifelong cyclist and a pioneer of the West Shore RCMP’s bike unit created in 2018. The 42-year-old won gold in the cross-country mountain bike event. The games are held every two years, featuring thousands of competitors from more than 50 countries.

Vunic is no stranger to the podium; he is a two-time provincial champion in cross-country mountain biking and a Red Bull Divide and Conquer champion.

He also competed in the BC Bike Race in July, ranking 27th among 600 riders from across the globe.
