The Barsby Bulldogs weren’t able to knock off what proved to be an unbeatable opponent.
The Robert Bateman Timberwolves completed an undefeated season by defeating the John Barsby Bulldogs 45-14 in the Subway Bowl’s AA varsity championship game Saturday, Dec. 3, at B.C. Place stadium.
The T-wolves tried an onside kick on the game’s opening kickoff, recovered it, and marched down the field to score a touchdown in a possession that set the tone for the evening. Barsby scored late in the first half, a 20-yard TD pass to Kai Rednour-Bruckman followed by a two-point conversion, but didn’t score again until the game’s final moments when the outcome had been determined.
Bateman coach David Mills said his team’s short kicks were part of the game plan in hopes of giving his team more possessions and as a way to avoid kicking to some of the Bulldogs’ playmakers.
“If we could try to have one or two more possessions than them we wanted that,” he said. “Sometimes the ball just bounces your way.”
