Athletes from Nanaimo’s VIP Gymsports club impressed at nationals this summer.

Vancouver Island Premier Gymsports sent a contingent to the Canadian Trampoline and Tumbling Championships in Calgary in July and came away with medals.

Owen Harbo, in his first year of junior competition, won the Canadian championship on the double mini trampoline and also earned a bronze in trampoline. Taylor Pillinger helped Team B.C. to gold in team tumbling and also earned bronze in tumbling in the senior division.

Nationals followed a busy few months for the gym’s athletes.

Pillinger represented Canada at the World Games in Birmingham, Ala. in early July. She said in a press release that “it was absolutely the best competitive experience I have ever had,” sparked new friendships, and renewed her passion for her sport.

Other highlights for VIP from this season included Harbo finishing in the top five on the double mini trampoline at an international event in Portugal and Adin Brenner, in his first year of senior competition, also representing Canada at world cup events in Italy and Portugal.

All three athletes hope to compete at world championships in Bulgaria this fall.
