No matter how the regular-season finale goes, the Nanaimo Clippers have put themselves in good position for playoffs.
The Clippers, with a win and a loss this past weekend, are third in the BCHL’s Coastal Division and host the Victoria Grizzlies on Friday, March 25, in the regular-season finale.
Nanaimo defeated the Cowichan Valley Capitals 4-3 on Saturday in Duncan, led by Jérémie Payant’s two goals. Sean Donaldson and Max Itagaki also tallied and Tristan Fraser and Cole Hansen had two assists each. Cooper Black was busy in goal, making 43 saves.
The following afternoon, the Clippers fell 3-2 to the Coquitlam Express, as they let a 2-1 lead midway through the third period get away. Keighan Gerrie and Donaldson scored and Black made 30 saves in defeat.
The Clips can finish second, third or fourth in the Coastal Division depending how the final week of the regular season plays out.
