The midget A Kerry Park Islanders avenged a lopsided defeat earlier in the tournament as they won the championship game at the Comox T2 Winter Tournament in late December.

The Islanders had lost 13-4 at the hands of Tri Port in round-robin play, but won when it counted most, taking the final by a 5-3 score.

Captain Liam Bell had the game-winning goal and two assists in the final, and assistant captain Dawson Bittner scored twice. Lauchlan McDonald had a goal and one helper, Wade Mason scored once, and Ethan Rogers, Jace Erskine and Tyler McCarthy had single assists. Tyson Duffe earned the win in net.

The Islanders opened round-robin play with a 2-2 tie against Comox, followed by the 13-4 loss to Tri Port, a 3-2 win over Ridge Meadows and a 5-2 loss to Oceanside.

Kerry Park faced Ridge Meadows once again in the semifinals. Danny Bruce and Bell scored as regulation ended in a 2-2 draw. Five minutes of 4-on-4 overtime solved nothing, so the game went to a shootout, in which the Islanders prevailed.

The event was the last tournament for several third-year midget players who will age out of minor hockey at the end of this season, including Bell, Bittner, McDonald, Rogers, Duffe, Brendon McDill, Dallin Foreman, Jake Metcalfe and Lincoln Findlater.

The midget A Islanders are coached by Dean Bruce, assisted by Jeff Metcalfe and Tom Shadlock. Ken Ramwell handles safety and Sabine Bell is the team manager.
