Griffen Outhouse rewriting the Royals’ goaltending records

Victoria Royals goaltender’s record-breaking season is not going unnoticed

Griffen Outhouse is now the answer to a lot of trivia questions.

Which goaltender has the most wins in Victoria Royals history? The most wins in a season? Faced the most shots in franchise history? The answer to all of those questions, is an undrafted 20-year-old turning heads and extending his own records with every game he plays .

“Anytime you break a record it’s, I mean, probably a good thing,” Outhouse said. “Again, it is the team in front of me that helped me do that and we have a really strong team this year and I had a lot of opportunity from the coaches to play a ton.”

The modest goaltender broke his own single-season win record of 34 wins and earlier this month beat the franchise’s all-time record of 84. He also owns the franchise record for most career saves, eclipsing the 4,072 of previous record holder Coleman Vollrath. All three of his records are expected to grow as the Royals march towards the playoffs.

“In the 21 hours in a day that they are not playing in a game is what makes him successful on the ice,” said team general manager Cam Hope. “So if you followed Griffen Outhouse in the day you would be exhausted with the preparation he puts in a day physically and mentally and that is the key to his success.”

Despite being undrafted by an NHL team, Hope said Outhouse’s tenacity, which he compared to New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, could one day play at the highest level.

“If there is a goaltender, anywhere in major junior hockey in the world, who is under six foot two who can play in the National Hockey League, it’s Griffen Outhouse,” Hope said.
