The best goal scorer most Nanaimo Clippers fans have ever seen is now in the Vancouver Canucks organization.

The Canucks announced Wednesday, July 28, the signing of seven players to two-way contracts, including former Clippers star Sheldon Rempal.

Rempal agreed to a one-year deal with the Canucks organization, according to a press release from the NHL club. Two-way contracts mean a player’s salary is different depending whether he is playing in the NHL or AHL. Starting this coming season, Vancouver’s AHL affiliate will be the Abbotsford Canucks.

Rempal, 25, played three games during 2020-21 with the Carolina Hurricanes, but spent more of the season with the Canes’ AHL-affiliate Chicago Wolves, tallying 14 points in 25 games.

Rempal broke into the NHL with the L.A. Kings in the 2018-19 season.

He played three seasons in the B.C. Hockey League in Nanaimo, most notably the 2015-16 campaign, when he scored 59 goals in 56 games.
