The Alberni Valley Bulldogs made a number of moves at the roster deadline this year.
The Bulldogs kicked things off on Wednesday, Nov. 29 by dealing 1998-born goaltender Colten Lancaster to the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in return for future considerations.
Lancaster joined the Bulldogs in a summer trade from the Merritt Centennials and made 12 appearances this season, compiling a record of 1-8-2 with a 3.87 goals-against average and .887 save-percentage.
“Colten is a great person and teammate who made a positive impact during his time in Port Alberni,” said Bulldogs head coach Matt Hughes. “As a 19-year-old, it’s important that he gets a chance to play often and establish himself in a starting role. He’s headed to a great opportunity with a very solid organization in Flin Flon and we wish him all the best for the remainder of the season and beyond.”
It didn’t take long for more roster moves. In the first deal of the Friday, Dec. 1 deadline, defenceman Tyson Slater was dealt to the Prince George Spruce Kings in return for blueliner Luc Salem.
The Bulldogs also added a pair of skaters in trades with teams from the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Forwards Carter Harris and Liam Lytton were acquired from the Grand Prairie Storm and Brooks Bandits, respectively, for future considerations.
In their final deal of the day, the Bulldogs filled the opening between the pipes by trading forward Gregg Lee to the Thief River Falls Norskies of the Superior International Junior Hockey League in return for goaltender Brock Lefebvre. The Cranbrook, B.C. native has been enjoying a stellar season in the SIJHL, leading all netminders in wins (13), goals-against average (1.99), save-percentage (.949) and shutouts (3).
Luc Salem made his debut this weekend, while Harris, Lytton and Lefebvre are expected to join the Bulldogs for practice this week.
