Boxer wins at Bronze Gloves

Precision Boxing Club fighter Gabby Sanderson wins pair of awards

A Nanaimo boxer won her bouts, and more, at the B.C. Bronze Gloves.

Gabby Sanderson of Precision Boxing Club won her division at the Bronze Gloves last weekend in Quesnel, and was also honoured with the Bronze Girl award as the event’s top female boxer.

Sanderson won both her bouts against a Quesnel opponent. Bob Pegues, a coach with Precision and Boxing B.C., said he had scouted his fighter’s opponent and had some worries about the matchup.

“But she handled it perfectly,” he said. “She moved really well and moved away from the girl’s power punching and just surgically struck. Every time she had the opportunity, she found the openings and took great advantage of it.”

The Bronze Gloves title continues a series of strong results for Sanderson. She recently travelled, with two Precision Boxing Club teammates, to Grande Prairie for a B.C.-versus-Alberta event and performed well there in an exhibition bout.

Also at Grande Prairie, Precision’s Jerome Leroyer defeated Fausto Santino and Kryshan Lysenko lost a controversial decision against Missy Mauro.
