I’m laughing sadly at Robert Berry in your recent housing series telling of his friends leaving Oak Bay, which is the poster brat fiefdom in this region for rejecting more housing.
Decades after other municipalities accepted the need and right for secondary suites, Oak Bay continues to study its navel instead of getting out of the way of people building and earning. It refuses to adopt bylaws for secondary suites from its neighbours, who have moved upward to garden suites and other additions.
It spends on staff and studies instead of on funding more police who help affordability by reducing loss of property and income due to assault and accident.
I no longer go to Oak Bay for events or shopping.
