LETTER: Traffic enforcement saves lives

A recent letter writer was indignant about being ticketed for a seatbelt infraction. The fact that they were ticketed on Mother’s Day is irrelevant.

The writer’s references to RCMP setting up a “covert” position, “an hour to process” the ticket, “backup” arriving in an “expensive RCMP SUV” and “defunding,” are cynical and nonsensical.

I well remember a young girl in my English class many years ago. She had a pretty face. She was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of a horrific accident and was ejected through the windscreen of the car in which she was travelling. Her injuries, facial and others, were life-altering.

The letter writer says that “there is nothing better for the police to do.” I disagree.
