On Feb. 24 at Qualicum Beach Airport, there was a sendoff for our brother Chief Michael Recalma, wife Sharon Recalma and donor Scott Harrison, with Mike to receive a kidney transplant in Vancouver.
The family extends their gratitude to Scott for the “gift of life – gift for life”; no words can be spoken for the sacrifice.
Since Mike had been diagnosed with kidney failure in 2018, there has been tremendous outpouring of community support.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the following:
Iskwew Airlines; Dr. R. Carson, nephrologist; VIHA staff and doctors, renal dialysis units, RNs and NUAs; Oceanside Health Centre; Kidney Foundation BC Yukon; Granny Go Go; First Nations Health; Qualicum First Nation council – staff and community members; Bow Horn Bay community members; Belly Laughs Navel Academy; Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76; Qualicum town council, Mayor Brian Wiese; Parksville Qualicum Beach News, Philip Wolf; CHEK News, Syke Ryan; all social media messages received and prayers. Also thanks extended to those who were tested to see if they were a match for a kidney donation.
Mike, Sharon and Scott, as well as Mike’s son Francis and wife Tiffany, they have been overwhelmed with friends and family support.
