Yelastawork Amha Senke

March 1, 1974 - June 6, 2022
Yelastawork Amha Senke, also lovingly called Lasta or Senait, a longtime resident of Courtenay, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's hospital on Monday, June 6th, 2022, after a short but courageous battle with an illness. Prior to her passing, she was comforted by close family and friends. Yelasta was born 1974 March 1st in Gondar, Ethiopia. She led a very fulfilling life of love, kindness and endurance at the same time pursuing her dreams of helping everyone she came across. She succeeded in all that she planned and set out to do in life and more.
It was her joy to be Mulugeta's wife, and mother of Amha, Mariam, Jonathan, and Natalie. She is survived by her, mother Wubalem sister Woderyelesh, brothers: Endalk, Banti, Yeshiwas, Asehnafi and Tewodros and many nieces, nephews, in-laws., cousins, aunts, and uncles. She was predeceased by her dear father Amha Senke.
Many in the Comox Valley will remember her for her beautiful, infectious, and welcoming smile at her business at the Cinnamon Bakery (Cinnsational) at the Driftwood Mall, where she owned and operated, for the past three years. For her unparalleled kindness and love to her family and friends, she will always be remembered and missed. The sacrifices she made and the kindness she showed to those she met will forever remain in the memories of all those who knew her. She cherished her children unconditionally, and her greatest joy was watching them grow.
Special thanks goes to our family physician Dr. Marcus Langhans and his team for the unparalleled care and exceptional professionalism that Lasta trusted throughout the years and at this critical juncture. A huge gratitude to Dr. Colleen Walsh and the nurses that cared for our beloved Lasta at the Comox Valley Hospital and The Views at St. Joseph Hospital. Also, the family would like to thank family and friends from near and far that came to be with her at the hospital, made phone calls, offered prayers, and comforted us during these hard times.
An Ethiopian Orthodox prayer service and an English memorial gathering was held at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay, British Columbia on Saturday June 11 to honor, pray, share memories, and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman.
