January 28, 1924 - September 5, 2019
Mum passed away peacefully at Chemainus Health Care Centre on September 5, 2019.
She was predeceased by her parents, Richard William Hebbourn and Minnie Hebbourn; her husband, Harold; and her sister, Patricia. She is survived by her children, John (Pam), Doreen (Cliff) and Peter; her brother, Richard (Margaret); her grandchildren, Paula (Victor), Richard, David (Tanya), and Christopher (Yamma); her great grandchildren, Jordyn, Trevor, Grace, Ethan, Sofia and Raquel; and many nieces and nephews.
She was born in London, England and married the love of her life, Harold, on July 1, 1944 during an air- raid, so many guests could not attend. Earlier, during the war and until peace was declared and while still in her late teens she served as an air-raid warden, patrolling the streets and helping people find shelter.
Wyn, Harold and their three children immigrated to Canada in 1957 where they lived in the Duncan area briefly before settling in Nanaimo. Mum found work with Kirk Evergreen while Dad worked for S. Madill Ltd. After retirement, in the 1980's, they moved to Ladysmith where they enjoyed their later years. Mum and Dad delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and she was recognized for 25 years of service to the Ladysmith Hospital Auxiliary and to the community. During that time, they travelled all over North America in their motor home and also enjoyed trips to Europe and cruising.
Mum and Dad (Nana and Pappy) spent much time helping to raise their grandchildren. She provided a loving home and always welcomed her children's and other friends to spontaneous home cooked meals. Her bread buns and other bakery items were always a favourite with everyone. She also was an accomplished knitter and leaves many knitted items as family heirlooms.
Special thanks to all the staff of Chemainus Health Care Centre for the loving care she received for almost a decade and for the friendly welcoming of visitors.
There will be an open gathering of family and friends to honour her life and reminisce on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019 from 1 pm to 3 pm at 1309 Thalia Place, Nanaimo (Chris and Yamma's house). Everyone welcome.
