April 16, 1937 - April 1, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the transition of our dearly loved Mom, and proud Grandmother Wilma Johannesma (nee Exmann) at the age of 82 years on April 1, 2020. Born on April 16, 1937 in Amsterdam, Holland, Wilma immigrated to Canada in 1960 and she was a proud Canadian who was very grateful to live in Canada.
Wilma is pre-deceased by her husband Gerrit (Jerry), and survived by her two daughters Diana Pink (David), and Teresa Wood (Derek), beloved granddaughter Cassia Wood, brothers & sisters, and family & friends around the world.
Wilma loved people, and sharing her wisdom, helping the underdog, homeless and less fortunate in our society. She will be fondly remembered for her strength, generosity, kindness, determination and love for her family, Jesus and humanity. Wilma enjoyed several careers in the hospitality and service industry, having a special touch for serving and helping people.
She was an avid reader and letter writer, and she loved sharing inspiring quotes & articles with family and friends to share love and kindness, and insights on daily right living. She was a master organizer and the faithful planner and navigator for numerous family vacations; thanks for the great memories Mom, and the photo albums you so lovingly created.
A celebration of Life was held on Wilma's 83rd birthday at French Beach on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, complete with a Black Forest Cake, her favourite. Diana and David shared part of her ashes with the Pacific Ocean, to be re-united with her husband and our beloved Dad, Jerry. The other half will be distributed in the mountains to nourish the forest, by her daughter Teresa, granddaughter Cassia and son-in-law Derek Wood.
Our family appreciates the loving care given by friends, the staff at Cairnsmore Place (Duncan), Ross Place (Victoria), the staff at CDH & RJH and Dr. Glenn Robinson, Dr. Geiss and the late Dr. Frank Loomer, plus the numerous health care providers and doctors who have attended to her consistent chronic pain and needs throughout the many years.

Where I have gone, I am not so small, My soul is as wide as the world is tall.
I have gone to answer the call - the call Of the one who takes care of us all. Wherever you look
You will find me there
In the heart of a rose,
in the heart of a prayer
on butterfly wings
on wings of my own.
To you, I am gone
But I am never alone
I am Home.
This is as pretty as I have seen it.
