April 19, 1951 - November 29, 2019
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Billy in hospital with family and friends by his side.
Billy leaves behind his beloved wife Debbie and dogs Duke and Buddy, brother Hugh (Linda), nephew Ian, nieces Annette, Lisa, and Katherine, and a large, close, extended family in Canada and Scotland. He is predeceased by his parents and by his best pal, younger brother Alan (Linda).
Billy was born in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland, and came to Canada at the age of thirteen. Living in Toronto during the 60's gave Billy his first taste of live concerts, where he frequently skipped in to see the likes of Hendrix, Joplin, and Led Zeppelin. His adventures cemented a lifelong love of music, art, and festivals. If asked what his secret to a happy life was, Billy would reply "Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll...but mostly Rock & Roll!"
As a young man, Billy began his sailing career on the Great Lakes, before moving to the West Coast to sail for CP and Seaspan. A born storyteller, he regaled us with stories of the steamship Oakglen, the Princess Marguerite, and the brotherhood he had with his shipmates.
In keeping with Billy's wishes, a "Hawaiian and Hippy" Party will be held Saturday, February 22nd at 4 pm at the Cumberland Hotel. Dig out your tie dye, flowered shirts, or bright clothing and join us in celebrating a truly remarkable, unforgettable man.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Brine and the staff at the Comox Valley Hospital for their loving care, and to Joey at Piercy's Funeral Home for his compassionate support.
