November 5, 1938 - September 1, 2020
William Frederick Tremain died on September 1st, 2020 at the age of 81, of complications from West Nile Virus.
William (Bill) is survived by his uncle Howard (Mary), his younger sister, June, his children Brad (Todd), Heather and Tim, and hisgrandchildren Ethan and Lauren. He is predeceased by his younger brother, Reg and his wife of 51 years, Carol.
Bill was born on November 5th, 1938 to William and Edith Tremain (née Joynes). He enlisted in the RCAF in 1957, and served 35 years. His career began in Greenwood, Nova Scotia and he retired in Courtenay, British Columbia, with stops in Ontario, Alberta, and including postings in Germany, Egypt, and Zimbabwe. His career choice stemmed from an early fascination with aviation, having grown up as a very young child during WWII.
Bill was a devoted father, and husband. He enjoyed being active; going for long walks, often with either of his beloved dogs. He had a sweet tooth, loved red wine, rum on Saturday nights, every type of seafood, and building a roaring fire. He was forever curious, a news junky, weather aficionado, and never tired of "solving" mysteries while watching British detective shows.
Upon retiring from the RCAF, Bill and his wife Carol were able to choose, for the first time in their lives, where to live. They chose Courtenay in the Comox Valley. He loved exploring the outdoors, walking the forested area behind his home, and enjoying the temperate climate after so many years of snow shovelling all over Canada. He also made many close friends amongst his neighbours, members of the Comox Valley Camera Club, and had the good fortune to rediscover some of his Air Force buddies who also made the choice to retire in BC.
He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all who knew him.
Due to COVID-19, no in person service is planned at this time. Please check your local health authority for information and risks related to West Nile virus in your area.
