April 12, 1931 - January 3, 2022
It is with sadness but peaceful hearts that we announce the passing of Bill Shewfelt at his home on January 3, 2022 surrounded by his family. Bill is predeceased by his wife Betty in 2011 and his oldest son Steve in 2021.
Bill is survived by his devoted sons Scott (Hollie) and Dave (Kathy) and his beloved sister Ali Doi. He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren Kody, Dylan, Savanna, Grace, Bailee, Abby, Harley and Elizabeth as well as his daughter-in-law Laura. Many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours have fond and loving memories of Bill and will hold those memories close to their hearts.
Bill was born in Thessalon, Ontario to parents Leonard and Beatrice Shewfelt and grew up on a small farm with his siblings Joyce, Ali and George. The family moved to Port Dalhousie for a few years during the war but moved back to Northern Ontario where the family ran a country store and a tourist business. Bill was a partner with his father in the family businesses and his happy, joking nature was enjoyed by all of the customers.
Bill met Betty in Northern Ontario and they married in Thessalon on October 15, 1955. They raised their family of three boys in Sault St. Marie with all of the adventures that three boys bring to a family. Bill was a proud employee of Imperial Oil for 28 years and retired as a senior warehouseman in 1986. If you knew Bill, you knew at least one good story about Imperial Oil. Upon retirement, the family moved to Courtenay to be closer to Betty's family and started a new chapter of their lives. Bill and Betty weathered the ups and downs of life and enjoyed their retired lives with friends, family and neighbours with the grandchildren always being a highlight.
In his later years, Bill enjoyed spending afternoons with his boys, keeping tabs on the neighbourhood and spending time with friends, grandchildren and his sister Ali.
Bill will be missed by all who knew him and we are thankful for all of the family time we were able to spend together.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation in memory of Bill. At Bill's request, there will be no service.
