November 29, 1945 - January 14, 2021
It is with profound sadness that the family of William (Bill) Black announce his passing on January 14, 2021 at the age of 75 years.
He died peacefully with his beloved wife, Christine and daughters at his side.
Bill was born on November 29, 1945 in Vancouver and grew up in East Vancouver. He earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia and a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Victoria.
He began his teaching career in 1975 in Campbell River, where he has lived ever since.
He was a well-respected teacher and Principal, and a humble and inspirational leader who has had a lasting influence on countless children, educators and colleagues. After retiring, he went on to become a compassionate funeral celebrant and caring marriage commissioner. Bill was a dedicated volunteer for Cystic Fibrosis Canada and founding member of the Campbell River Cystic Fibrosis Chapter.
Bill had a wide range of interests and passions, from spending meaningful time with his family and long-time friends to creatively repurposing furniture. Bill will be remembered for his kindness, humility, generosity, genuine interest in others and sense of humour. All who knew him will remember his joyful, infectious laugh.
He is survived by his wife Christine Black; children Tara Black (Glenn Stark), Rachel Black and Kim Wood (James Wood); grandchildren Nolah Stark, Cohen Stark, William Black and Charlie Wood; brothers Robert Black and Norman Black; and many cherished extended family members.
Bill's family wishes to thank his family doctor, Simon Friderichs, and the specialists and staff at the Campbell River Hospital for their exceptional care and support.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
