April 26, 1946 - July 3, 2020
With deep sadness we announce that Bill Adkins passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2020, at the age of 74 years in Victoria B.C. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Suzanne with whom he enjoyed 34 years of adventure, love and happiness. He is survived by his children, Lesleigh (Corey), and James (Michelle). He delighted in the company of his grandchildren, Dylan (Amy), Taylor (Tim), Cash and Scout and was very proud to be a great-grandfather to Emmett. He is also survived by his siblings, Rob, Liz and Robin.
Bill was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta and spent much of his life in Winnipeg. He chose teaching as his career and taught in Selkirk and The Pas before completing his Bachelor of Library Science degree and becoming the librarian and part-time computer science teacher at Oak Park High School in Winnipeg. While attending a conference on Vancouver Island Bill met Suzanne, the love of his life. They married a short time later. Bill was a man of many passions and interested in all that life had to offer. He was an avid cross-country skier, geocacher, computer advisor, curler and nature lover. He and Suzanne enjoyed many wonderful holidays together, ranging from trips to Disneyworld with the children, to travels to China, Hawaii, road trips across Canada and cruises. They chose to spend their final years in Qualicum Beach, a place they loved for not only the ocean and weather, but also for the vibrant community. They truly felt at home there.
Bill had a strong faith and was active in the Anglican church all his life. He sung in many choirs and took great pleasure in music, both as a listener and a player. His latest instrument was the ukulele, from which he derived many hours of pleasure. He was very intelligent and had a plethora of knowledge in many diverse fields. He was a caring man, always seeing the best in people and treating all with respect and integrity. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the BC Cancer Foundation in Bill's honour. The funeral will be held at a later date.
