Wilhelm 'Bill' Hass, 94, of Campbell River, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Campbell River General Hospital.

He was born in Jekatrinowka, Romania, to David and Maria Hass on June 3, 1923. He lived there until conscripted to serve in the German Army near the end of WWII. After the war, he migrated to West Germany where he met the love of his life, Ella Bader, herself a war displaced person who came from Anatolin, Poland.

It was during this 10-year period in Germany where he learned his trade as a Master Carpenter and was blessed with his first child, Edeltraut, in 1953. But times were tough in post war Germany, so he sought his fortune in Canada and took his young family to Vancouver in 1956. Although learning a new language was a challenge, he was soon blessed with twin boys, Reiner and Wilfried in 1959.

In 1965 new opportunities for work presented themselves and the family moved to Campbell River, a community that he has lived in until the present. While in Vancouver he had been a cabinet maker and finishing carpenter, in Campbell River he expanded his career to include new house construction and commercial buildings.

Bill is survived by his wife and 3 children, daughter-in-law Heidi Hass, sister Marie Oster in Germany, grandchildren Timothy and Stephen Hass, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was pre-deceased by his daughter-in-law Teresa Hass. He enjoyed socializing with friends, playing cards, and watching All Star Wrestling on television. He was active in his local church where he was one of the key contributors in building the Church Parsonage.

Bill will be laid to rest at 11:00 am on November 24 at Elk Falls Cemetery. Funeral service for Bill will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church from 1:00 - 3:00 pm on November 24.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church.
