Werner Friedrich Wilhelm Koschack, age 83, of Black Creek, BC passed away peacefully on March 23, 2021.
He is pre deceased by his son Bob; parents Magdalena and Wilhelm and by siblings; Helga, Christa, Gerda and Dieter.
He is survived by; loving wife Inge of 58 1/2 years, daughter Karin, grandchildren; Mike, Tajana and Kolby, and by sisters; Astrid and Eva. And numerous relatives both here and in Germany.
Werner was born January 1, 1938 in Neuzelle, East Germany where he spent his childhood playing and excelling in soccer, learning to dance at the local dance hall under the wing of the elderly ladies who needed a dance partner and instilled a passion for dancing which lasted him his entire life. Here he also started his carpentry apprenticeship at the age of 14.
When there was talk of the wall being built separating the east and west he left his home and family and went by train to Frankfurt. Here he worked for Hoffman Construction for a year on projects such as the Cathedral and Opera House until his travel documents arrived.
With 2 suitcases and sixty dollars he arrived in Canada in August of 1959. Eventually settling on Vancouver Island. On the Lede farm he met his soulmate Inge. In 1962 they began their life as a married couple, soon after buying the property on Miracle Beach Drive and began building their dream life.
Werner worked in construction most of his life building modular homes for Black Creek Building Supplies transitioning into his own company Koschack Construction where he built over 50 spec and custom homes, the UBC barns and numerous other barns in the Valley.
He had many joys in his life; playing cards, involvement in minor hockey, a life rich with family, friends and good times. Werner and Inge were known for dancing the evenings away at parties and local dances or when on holidays in Germany, Hawaii and Mexico. Known for his great sense of humor, being a generous host, a kind and gentle spirit and his homemade Cherry and Raisin wine.
He lived the last years of his life with great dignity and grace, even though he had been suffering with Parkinson's and Dementia for many years. He was lovingly cared for at home until his illnesses required total care which he received from the kind and caring staff at Cumberland Lodge.
