November 23, 1946 - December 16, 2022
In loving memory ~
We deeply regret to announce the passing of our beautiful, loving mom Wendy Margo Bailey (nee Newbold). Mom was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on November 23rd, 1946 and passed December 16th, 2022 at age 76 years.
Survived by daughters Michael (Bruce), Kim (Ron) and son Clint (Tanya). Grandchildren Shelby (Alejandro), Cory, Jared, Jamie, Easton and Addyson who she absolutely adored. Nobody lit her eyes up quite like her grandchildren did. Sister Tenley Jill (Chris) Dubois. Nephews Stephane (Dora), Michael , Nieces Lauren (Zak) and Erin and mom's great niece and namesake Wendy born January 3rd, 2023. Predeceased by son Cory and parents Earle Newbold and Doris McGuirl, numerous extended family and dogs Pickle and Alfie.
Mom was raised in Borden, Saskatchewan and was lucky enough to grow up alongside many of her 12 cousins, whom she adored. She was very proud of her Newbold heritage and was ecstatic to learn of her lifelong wish of a baby sister had finally come true. Jill was the " light of her life ". Around this time mom also met the " love of her life", our dad Clint Bailey. After several years together dad went West to Vancouver Island in hopes of landing a good job. Mom was quick to follow, where they soon married and went on to raise four children in the small town of Ladysmith. It was that same man ( our dad ) who sat with her in her final days and gave her joy and beautiful memories to take with her.
Mom will always be remembered for her quirky sense of humour, her " off the wall" antics and her contagious laughter. She was also known to play the odd practical joke or two. She loved to make people laugh and she would have given you the shirt off her back and her last dollar too. She could often be spotted cruising town with a Sheepdog in the back seat trying to make it to four different ballparks in order to catch a few innings of each of our games. She was proud of the plaque she received for being instrumental in the fundraising needed so the High Street ballpark concession stand became a reality.
She was a traveller, a gardener, a comic, a great cook, a cribbage master and above all a great mom. She also was a long-standing member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2101. Our grieving is softened knowing she is once again with our brother and her son Cory. She was never the same after we lost him. He was there anxiously waiting with a hockey stick in hand and a sheepdog on either side. It was a moment she had dreamt of for many years.
Enormous thanks and love to the staff of Chemainus Health Care Centre for their unique, loving and empathetic care of our mom. Delivered with compassion, patience and a whole lot of humour. Our mom had her faves and each of you had nicknames, you know who you are! She had her own personal Nurse /angel, her granddaughter Shelby who felt it was an honour to care for her Grandma for the past four years. Special thanks to moms devoted friends Julie, Donna, Roy and Debbie. She loved you immensely.
A celebration of life for mum will be held at the Ladysmith Eagles Hall on February 11th, 2023 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Refreshments and sandwiches will be provided.
We will love you mum ... forever and ever.
