Wayne Coward passed away at Resthaven Lodge on December 4th, 2022. He was born April 11th, 1939, to Sandy & Johanna Coward and resided in Sidney B.C. all his life. Wayne made his living on the seas. Wayne started as a young man working as a deckhand on the fishing packers along the B.C. coast. In 1960 he joined the B.C. Ferries and was on the maiden voyage of the Queen of Sidney. Wayne rose up the ranks to become a B.C. Ferries ships officer.
Wayne then furthered his career by joining Imperial Oil and rose to become the Capitan on the Imperial Tofino and later the Imperial Skeena. In May of 1987, he became a B.C. Coastal Pilot and enjoyed Piloting big ships until his retirement in 2004.
Wayne is survived by his brothers Noel and Garth Coward, his son Shawn (Denise), his daughter Tina (Miles) and grandchildren Taryn, Devin and Colin.
