April 1, 1934 - March 27, 2021
With great sadness, we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather in the wee hours of March 27, 2021 at the Comox Valley Hospital.
Walt moved to the valley in 1974 when he and business partner bought McConochie's Furniture which they operated for many years until Pat retired and Walt continued on for many more.
Always a gentleman, he was kind, generous, loving and well liked and loved by all from family to customers.
He was a big supporter of Ducks Unlimited and for many years, sponsored minor hockey, little league baseball and a local golf tournament.
He spent many happy hours fishing, Nordic skiing, and cycling, was an avid stamp collector and photographer, and had fun with McConochie's Mountain Men in Snow to Surf for several years.
Walt is survived by his wife Christine, his children: Nancy (Bruce), Terry, Kim, Bob (Veronica); step-children: Mark (Patti) and Leslie (Adrian); grandchildren: Kasey, Lara, Kieran and Cole; great-grandchildren: Arlan and Wyatt; Siblings: Betty and John (Maryanne) in Ontario. Also missed by his little love "Pebbles" who slept beside him on his chair.
Walt can now rest in peace and listen to his favourite Willie Nelson tunes, especially "Blue Eyes".
The family gives thanks for the excellent hospital care he received by all the nurses and caregivers. Special thanks to Dr. Nap for all his thoughtfulness and kindness during the last few years.
As per Walt's wishes, his ashes will be scattered privately at a later date.
In his memory, kindly make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, if you wish.
