October 5, 1941 - July 16, 2019
It is with heavy hearts we announce the news of our dearly departed wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, Verna Ruth Dykhuizen, who passed away July 16, 2019.
Verna was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Edna, and her brother Kenneth.
Verna is survived by her husband Ray, brothers Floyd and Archie; children Raymond (Arlene), Reg (Michelle), and Darlene. Grandchildren; Teri, Austin, Amanda, Rosemary, Steven, Megan, Emily, Laura; and great grandchildren Shane and Taylor.
Verna was born on October 5th, 1941 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, and her family moved to McBride, BC when she was 5, where she was raised on the family farm with her brothers. She married Ray Dykhuizen December 19, 1959, and they moved to Princeton, BC in 1964, and then to Port Alberni, BC in 1972, and finally on to Courtenay, BC in 1978.
Verna was active in the various clubs and organizations in the Comox Valley. She was an active Curler for years as part of the Comox Valley Curling Club. She was a member of the Evergreen Senior's Centre, as well as a Courtenay Legion Member.
As a pet lover Verna had many pets over the years, and in lieu of flowers, donations to the SPCA is appreciated. Or alternatively, a donation to the Lasqueti Island Emergency Services is appreciated. See lasqueti.ca/emergency for contact details.
