Valerie L. Kelly

January 28, 1945 – September 10, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Valerie Lillian Kelly (née Swanson) on September 10th 2022, at the age of 77.
Val was born in the Alberni Valley on January 28th, 1945. She enjoyed her childhood on the shores of Sproat Lake, where she was raised. During her teenage years she was the “Mayor of Teen Town”, a designation she held dear. As a young woman, she was a member of CGIT and taught Sunday School. Val was also a volunteer for Hospice and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. For many years, Val worked at the Royal Bank and came to know many valley residents.
Val’s great grandparents, the Nicolases, were some of the original settlers in the Valley. She loved local history and was proud of her pioneer family heritage.
Val’s heart was truly at home with her family. Val excelled at gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing, needlework and quilting. She put her heart into everything she made. During her later years, Val could often be found walking her dogs and visiting at Canal Beach.
Val is predeceased by her husband and the love of her life, Patrick (Pat) G. Kelly. They met in the early 1960s and lovingly raised 3 children through their time together. Val is also predeceased by her 2 sisters, her brother, sister-in-law, and Nephew.
She is survived by her 3 children, sister, her beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and very dear friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be extended in Val’s name to our local SPCA or Wheels for Wellness. There will be no service as per Val’s request.
