September 2, 1955 - November 19, 2021
It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of a wonderful wife, loving dedicated mother and a true friend at the age of 66 years.
In mid-March Valerie was diagnosed with a very rare, very aggressive, and very nasty sarcoma. Although no cure was available, she met it head on and bravely battled through the tests, procedures, side effects and the severe pain this cancer brought her. She was a true warrior.
Valerie passed away at the North Island Hospital Campbell River and District in the early morning hours of November 19th with her husband Steve at her side.
From the time that Valerie was diagnosed until her passing she was administered to by no less than 18 dedicated physicians and surgeons, dozens of amazing nurses, and many medical technicians. Valerie could not thank them enough for the dedication and attention they provided her through her illness. She was truly inspired by the nurses and doctors of the Campbell River Cancer Clinic.
Valerie is survived by her loving husband Steven John Todd, her daughter Jennifer Lynn Warren (Mike) of Victoria, BC, sister Karen Andrews (Robert) of Duncan, BC, niece Stephanie Andrews (Ryan) of Radium Hot Springs, BC and nephew Cody Andrews (Patrick) of Duncan, BC. She was predeceased by her father George Albert 'Bert' Herbron, 1997 and Mother Elida 'June' Hebron (nee Miller), 1998.
Also mourning her loss are Steven's close family; sister Gloria Simpson (Rick) of Abbotsford, sister Carolyn Sirianni (Steve) of Calgary, AB, brother Raymond Todd (Beth) of Whitehorse, YT and sister Colleen Felker (Barry) of Richmond, BC.
Valerie was the Office Manager for Vancouver Island Air on the Tyee Spit where she enjoyed strong relationships with her VIA family for over 30 years. Left to mourn are Vancouver Island Air's owner Larry Langford (Denise), Larry's daughter Julie (Chief Dispatcher), son-in-law Josi (Chief Engineer), grandson Easton Billinghurst; Steve Crerar (Chief Pilot), Gord Cyr (Pilot), as well as Michelle, Rochelle, Marlena, Ricky, Noah, Bill and the many pilots, engineers, mechanics and dock hands who made ViA their second home.
Val was born at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, just five months before her husband Steve was. Her father was in the Army Artillery then the Royal Canadian Airforce retiring as a radar technician at CFB Comox and later at BC Tel in Courtenay. His military career took the family from Brentwood Bay, BC to Comox where her sister Karen was born, Belgium, back to Comox, North Bay ON to Chibougamau PQ, and finally to Royston, BC. She met Steve in Campbell River at Island Airlines in 1979 when she transferred from Gold River, BC. They were married on May 7th, 1983 at the Native Sons Hall in Courtenay. In April of 1985 their daughter Jennifer was born in Campbell River. Jennifer and Mike are expecting their first child in May.
A Celebration of Valerie's Life and the scattering of her ashes is expected to be held in the spring dependent upon any restrictions which might be due to the current pandemic. An announcement will be issued at that time. Please make a donation in Valerie's memory to any arm of cancer research you wish to.
