Tony “Ante” Lovric

Ante (Tony) Lovric aged 84 passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side Aug 13,2018, after a hard fought battle with Cancer.

Predeceased by his father Ivan, mother Matija & sister Jerka.

Survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sharon, sisters Blajenka and Filipa, & children Teresa & David (Trish) & grandchildren Lindsay & Seth & great grandson Ayden.

Tony was born in Croatia in 1934. Sadly, his father passed away only 11 days later. Tony grew up much loved by his mother & sisters. Life was difficult for his single mother with poverty, communism & war. In search of a better life, in 1956 at age 22, Tony chose to escape to Italy on a small boat in the dark of night with a few others, where he was able to immigrate to Canada. In 1962 skating in Stanley Park, he met Sharon. Within the year they were married.

In 1963 Teresa was born. In 1964 they moved to Nanaimo where Tony quickly found work at Harmac with the help of his father-in-law. In 1965 David was born. In 1966 they built their home in Harewood next door to Sharon’s parents Vernon and Mary Wright. At that time he brought his mother over from Croatia followed by his sister Filipa in 1971. In 1988 they moved to Hammond Bay.

Tony made many close friends in his lifetime.

Family & friends meant everything to him. Always ready with a helping hand, a kind word or something to make you laugh.

He lived life with passion and an adventurous soul. He loved to travel and see the world as much as he loved to work on cars & around the house. There was nothing he couldn’t build or fix.

An avid golfer, Tony was always on the go.

We invite all who knew Tony to join us in the Celebration of his life Sept 15, 2018 at the Moose Hall, 1356 Cranberry Ave at Noon. Beverages & food will be served.

Please come & share any memories or stories you have about Tony.

A special thank you to Dr’s Ontko & JanseVanRensberg & the doctors & nurses in Palliative care and Floor 6 at NRGH for the excellent care provided to Tony.

Though we will miss him every day, Tony has left us with a life time of memories that we will always cherish.
