July 15, 1921 - January 15, 2022
Thomas (Tom) Shaw passed away peacefully at the age of one hundred years on January 15, 2022, in Comox, B.C. He is survived by his children, Thomas (Janet), Kenneth (Valori), Susan (John), nine grand children, and seven great grandchildren. He is
predeceased by his loving wife of seventy years, Mary Shaw.
Tom was born on July 15, 1921, in Manchester, England. At two years of age, with his parents and twin sisters, he immigrated to New Westminster, B.C. Where he spent his childhood years.
Tom joined the R.C.A.F. and served in WWII in England and continued in active service after the end of the war. He returned to Canada to start a family and continue his career in the military.
Tom and his family were posted in Quebec, Alberta, France, Nova Scotia, and finally in B.C. at C.F.B. Comox. Upon retirement, he and Mary enjoyed travelling and wintering in Palm Springs, California, and later staying at home in Little River in the Comox Valley.
Tom loved to follow the news and read his daily Times Colonist newspaper. He challenged the newspaper's daily crossword puzzle right to his final days.
A celebration of life will be attended by his family and close friends at a date to be determined during the ensuing summer.
Tom's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the VIHA Home Support Team, the Classic Life Care Team and a special thank you to Jane, housekeeper and friend who enabled him to reside in his home in his final days.
