In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas James Warnock. A fisherman and epic bushman, he will be greatly missed.
Tom is survived by his 4 children Adam Clarke (Emmanuelle), Katie Amos (Will), Martin Warnock (Amanda), and Robert Warnock (Cassandra); 9 grandchildren Haylee (Jared), Farrah, George, Eli, Koen, Celeste, Annelyse, Orin and Lupin; 2 great-grandchildren Elijah and Millie; his sister Linda Warnock; and brothers Marvin, Fred, and Randal Warnock.
Tom was born in Pender Harbour, B.C. to Elna and Billie Warnock. He grew up fishing with his grandfather, father and 6 siblings. His grandparents Martin and Martha Warnock had settled in Bargain Harbour around 1918 and had a big house and garden on the ocean. In his teen years, he lived in Vancouver with friends enjoying the city even sleeping inside the military tanks parked on Beatty Street.
Tom returned to commercial fishing trolling with his father on the Homelite and Uncle Jim Warnock on the Sea Angel in the 60s. He went seining on the Adele M, Lasqueti Gambler, Windward Star, Miss Janine and the Optimist #1 in the 70s and 80s. He ran and worked on Wes Pack and the Trumpeter on Herring. From 1989 to 1992 he ran his own gillnetter the Espinosa.
Tom settled on Vancouver Island in the early 80s. He loved canoe trips, mushroom foraging, saunas, long drives, diners, classic rock, reggae, and hockey cards. Tom was a great cook and loved food from elk steaks and salmon to peanut butter, mayo, pickle and cheese sandwiches and chocolatey desserts.
He loved his family and was always there to help with anything.
His kind, calm, confident presence will be sorely missed.
