With sadness our family announces the passing of Teresa Vinciguerra. Beloved wife of Silvio (predeceased 2008), mother to Diva, David (Aly), and Andy (Jon). Grandmother to Dylan, Genevieve, Cole, and Stefanie.
Teresa was born in a tiny village – La Valle – in Northern Italy in 1931. She began raising her family with the love of her life, Silvio, in Caracas, Venezuela. Returning to Italy for a few years, they subsequently immigrated o Canada to find better opportunities for their family here. Settling in Vancouver where they resided for many years, they moved to the Ladysmith area to be with family in later years. Most recently, Teresa resided at Wexford Creek Assisted Living in Nanaimo.
Teresa was a true Earth spirit and survivalist who loved gardening, keeping chickens, making everything from scratch and she made a point of passing on to her children traditional skills and knowledge such as pasta-making, curing pork, making wine, and wildcrafting for food and medicines. She was very physically strong and resilient, and a bit mischievous. She loved feeding everyone, and she had a great laugh and huge presence. Teresa was a devoted wife and mother who adored her grandchildren.
We would like to thank the doctor and nurses at the Palliative Care Unit, Nanaimo General Hospital for the compassionate care given to our Mother in her last days. We would also like to thank the staff and residents of Wexford Creek for creating a very caring community and giving our Mom a real sense of belonging there. A special thank you to the VIHA home care ladies and gentlemen who cared for Teresa and connected so positively with her in spite of language barriers. We are truly grateful.
We will be celebrating Teresa’s life on Friday, March 1st at Sands Funeral Home, Nanaimo, at 1 pm.
