In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Theodore (Ted) Adolf Kaese on July 13th, 2022 at Nanaimo Regional Hospital surrounded by family.
He will be missed by his loving wife, Karin, his son Trent (Jacqueline), his daughter Kara (Marty); grandchildren: Josh (Beth), Jake (Rebecca), Riley, Madison and his Great grandchild, baby Elle; his five siblings: Hildegarde (Owen), Greg (Lynn), Shirley (Cliff), Marlene (Don) and Mark (Cathy) and his very much-loved nieces and nephews.
Born in Big River, Saskatchewan Ted was a product of the Big River School system. A staunch competitor, Ted played hockey at all levels and was known to spend some quality time in the penalty box - all justified penalties of course. In 1960, Ted joined the Navy and while serving a three-year term he played hockey for the Naval team and became a member of the Victoria Boxing Club.
After leaving the Navy, Ted moved to Cedar where he worked at Harmac, longshored and as a self-employed Diver. Soon after, Ted started his own excavation company working around the clock developing an unwavering reputation as a talented and hard-working Operator. His talents soon landed him a position as Lead Instructor for the Heavy Equipment Operator course at Malaspina College (VIU today) where he stayed for 10+ years.
After retiring, his attention turned to his ultimate dream of designing and building Cottonwood Golf Course along with his family. Ted's blood, sweat and tears covers every square inch of Cottonwood and was proud that it's still family owned and operated today. Although recognized for his toughness, he was gentle and meek of heart craving family functions often greeting you with a Captain Morgan Rum with one hand (the real kind, none of that spiced stuff) and a "knee-buckling" hand shake with the other. Throughout his life, Ted's character, work ethic and spirit never waned. Sadly though, Ted was diagnosed with ALS imposing a 5-year battle which he fought so hard and courageously against until the end.
We would like to thank the nurses at Nanaimo Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their amazing love and support. A special thank you to Ted's long-time family physician, Dr Love who was also present and bed-side with Ted.
A celebration of life will be held at Cottonwood Golf Course on August 5th, 2022 from 2pm -5pm.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the ALS Society of BC www.alsbc.ca/donate 100% of the donations stay in BC.
