Tanya passed away peacefully at home. She was born in Victoria and lived most of her life on Vancouver Island. She was the youngest daughter of Frederick J. Rogers and Gloria Mapes. She is survived by her daughter Christina Stitch (Glenn), and grand daughters Jessica (Mike), Kayla, and Carly (Tim), and her great grandsons Braiden and Liam, nephew Craig and husband Geoff, his sons D'arcy (Gina), and Andrew (who died Oct 12th, 2015) and grandsons Ryan and Kelly (Kyla), and great grandsons Mylo, Maverick and Theodore. She was predeceased by her other daughter Kimberly who died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox on July 7th, 1996.
Tanya was raised in Jordan River with her four siblings and later lived and worked in Victoria. She worked in Social Services for many years after she moved up to Cumberland. She was very keen on sports and had a "killer instinct" when it came to tennis and squash, and had a shelf full of trophies. After retiring from Social Services, she founded the Comox Valley Advocacy Society, rented a downtown office, and provided free services to people who had difficulty understanding official forms and procedures of several government agencies and this was popular for the 4 years before she retired.
Tanya and Geoff travelled for many years - Canada/US coast to coast, Carib. UK/Bali and Hong Kong, and for Tanya Mexico was her favorite. They enjoyed 28 years of boating in our local marine paradise from Sointula to Juan de Fuca with Sail and Power boats.
Tanya spent many years enjoying dancing and constantly taking lessons to learn new steps and movements. She spent many hours playing her acoustic Martin guitars and was fortunate to find a professional tutor who coached her for many years. She had many friends and enjoyed dinners out, entertaining and admiring the view from their home. Tanya loved animals and had many pets over the years. She loved and enjoyed her cats and dogs.
A private family dinner has been arranged so that we can commemorate her life and her passing.
