Tannis passed away in Port Alberni on Monday, July 24, 2017 at the age of 90.

Predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband William and daughter-in-law Rosemary.

Tannis is survived by children Peter, Jim and Allan (Colleen); grandchildren Katrina, Tannis, Chris, Emily and Nick as well as many nieces and nephews.

Born in BC, Tannis came to Port Alberni with her husband in the early 1950s. She worked at the Alberni Plywood Mill until the children started to arrive. Tannis was first and foremost a mother and homemaker. She loved gardening – especially roses, and cooking what she grew. Tannis was an accomplished knitter, and took pride in what she made, from Indian sweaters to afghans . Making two dinners each day because William was on afternoon shift for many years, Tannis made cultural favourites: goulash, cabbage rolls, borscht and wonderful Russian meals . As a young child growing up on the farm, she loved the animals her family raised . It is with this love she became a vegetarian. Family remembers that Tannis never complained.

According to Tannis’ wishes, a private family gathering will be taking place. Stories and condolences may be offered to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Tannis’ memory to the Fir Park/Echo Village Foundation, 4411 Wallace St. Port Alberni, BC., V9Y 7Y5

Special thanks go to Tannis’ “girls” at Echo Village who took such good care of her during her stay there.
