October 24, 1930 - February 12, 2022
At the age of 91, on the afternoon of February 12, with the sun shining & the birds singing, Mom, Grama, & Auntie Sylvia slipped gently away with family by her side.
Born in the Comox Hospital to Fred & Dolly White in 1930, mom grew up in Dove Creek, 1 of 7 siblings. Whenever the siblings got together to reminisce, what stories they would tell!
Sylvia worked for 17 years at Goodwill Enterprises & she especially enjoyed "doing the books".
Sylvia loved spending time outdoors camping, fishing, & tending her beautiful gardens.
Dogs & cats were also an important part of her life. Indoor pastimes included sketching, reading, lapidary, & knitting. Mom loved all kinds of music & singing, she was amazing at whistling!
We will always remember her fancy desserts, her excellent pastry, canning of jams, jellies, pickles & fish as well as her dozens of cookies at Christmas time! She & Ernie enjoyed many road trips over the years in Canada & the States as well as flights to Hawaii & cruising to Alaska.
Sylvia was a volunteer with the Mothers March and the Legion.
Predeceased by her husband Ernie, sisters Muriel (Harold), Violet (Bill), & sister-in-law Shirley. Brothers Archie (Elaine) & Bob. Nieces Heather & Lisa & nephew Marc.
She is survived by children Jean & Ed (Brenda) & stepchildren Charlie (Judi) & Annabelle; grandchildren Leah (Jay), Gina, Melissa (Chris), Ben (Jacqueline), Darcy, Heather (Geoff), Meesha, & Michael (Sarah); great grandsons Skylar & Brenden & great granddaughters Jenna, Elise, Bree, Heidi & Malin; siblings Ralph (Judy), Donna (Lafe), & sister-in-law Donna and their families.
Thank you to all of the staff at the Views who interacted with Sylvia over the past 7 years. I know by the way that she looked at you that she made positive connections. Thanks especially for the last 3 weeks of mom's life for the extra care you gave her. I would also like to thank Marsha (the resident cat), who stayed with mom until the very end.
Sylvia, you and your beautiful smile will be missed so much. Forever in our hearts, we will fondly remember the wonderful times spent with you. We will be having a celebration for family & friends in the summertime. Donations can be made to the War Amps or towards Dementia Research.
