August 10, 2020
Susan Edda Grant, age 58, passed away in Comox on the morning of August 10, 2020, of heart failure. Susan was born in Comox at St Josephs Hospital in 1962 to Robert and Edda but was not raised in the Valley. She was a child of the Air Force raised in Germany, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Ottawa Ontario where she finished her high school and was an Air Cadet in the 1980's. The second of three children she was her Dad's favorite child, which both Kurt, her older brother, and Joel, her younger brother, accepted because she was their favorite too.
Married in Ottawa in her 20's, she moved to Edmonton where she had her two boys Steven and Adam. In the late 90's she divorced when the boys were young, packed up and returned to her birthplace in the Comox Valley. Here she worked and supported herself and children becoming a fixture in the community working at Connect Hearing in Comox as a Customer Care Representative.
In more recent years Susan became a Grandmother to Steven and Kala's two children Ava and Aria who she loved to spend time with. You could find Susan in the evenings out for regular walks with Adam and the dogs, spending time with her Mom gardening and poking around the flea markets. If she was not there, just look in the timekeepers' box at the hockey arena or the stands at her sons' hockey games where she was happy to passionately correct anyone that had a bad thing to say about her kids or friends.
Intensely loyal, Susan was always there for her family, friends and anyone that needed her help. If you were lucky to know Susan or have her as your friend you would remember her as the superhero she was, ready to set you straight at a moments notice if you were not being kind and respectful and find a way to make you smile. She was practical and would not let you feel sorry for yourself having no problem giving you a kick or a hug when you needed it. Susan understood that it is how you live your life that matters. She set an example for all that knew her, 'Onwards and Upwards' and above all 'Stand Fast'.
Susan was a tough person, she endured health challenges for more than 20 years and repeatedly overcame them. She never burdened her friends and family with her struggles and never let it affect her incredible disposition. With a steeped tea and honey in hand and a 'U LUV I' she was out the door ready to conquer the day with her smile, determination, and limitless energy. She had an infectious laugh and loved to give those close to her nicknames. Her partner "Handsome", her son "Monkey", her brother "Boomcha" to name only the ones that we had permission to reveal. She was a force of nature, found joy in every day, and was never shy about sharing it with everyone she interacted with.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life for Susan outdoors on September 13, 2020, at her Mom and Dad's house, 6460 Mystery Beach Road between 1 pm and 4 pm. All those wanting to come and pay their respects and share the joy that Susan brought to your lives are welcome.
