We sadly announce that our beloved Stan has passed into the Light.
He went peacefully and unafraid, at home in Victoria, with loving family there. He said of his life -- he "had a good run of it".
Raised on a prairie farm, Stan grew fast and worked his way to Vancouver in his teens, then to Cumberland to rejoin his family who had moved there. After High School, he served in the Navy, travelling throughout the South Pacific. Later in Victoria, he taught dance and married Lennie Tupper. They settled in Cumberland, started a family, and Stan trained as an electrician. Then they tried living on a Quadra Island homestead, where a third child was born. Finally they settled for many years in Grindrod in the BC Interior, where Stan worked many jobs and learned many skills. Finally returning to the Island, he worked in Lake Cowichan then retired in Duncan.
Stan was a gentle, kind man who embraced family, friends, and even trees with true appreciation. Pre-deceased by son Tyler, he leaves behind daughter Melanie, son Shaun, brother Randy, former wife Lennie, grandsons Orien and Luka, and beloved partner Laurel.
Stan believed in life, love, nature, and social justice. In later years he worked for conservation and community, and was often seen hiking in town or on local trails. He volunteered for the Spirit Drummers, the Intercultural Society, and many musical shows. He also wrote published poetry, and played songs of hope, with guitar and Native American flute. His quiet warmth and generosity earned him many loyal friends. A rich and varied life helped him to grow spiritually and enjoy life to the end. He "Had a good run of it."
(A private Celebration of Life was held in November. Our thanks and donations go to Hospice, who were helpful till the end.)
