September 23, 2019
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Shue King Wong announce her peaceful passing at the age of 88 years old on September 23, 2019.
Suzie, Mom, Mama, Pua Pua, and to most, Nee Nee, was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Fook Gee Wong (Ya Ya) in 2018.
Nee Nee is survived by 7 loving children, Jean (Davey), Stan, Frank, Michael, Johnny (Sheri), Jerry & Marilyn (Bruno); beloved grandchildren, Susan (Rory), Sandra (Jay), Debbie (Jack), Braeley, Brantyn (Emily), Nico & Jaden; and 6 adorable great grandchildren, Alexis, Kaira, Jacob, Dylan, Paige & Ethan.
Nee Nee was born in the village of Sze Yup, Toisan, Canton, China and arrived in Port Alberni in 1953 and never looked back. She loved her new country and the freedom that came with it. Nee Nee immersed herself in the land of many different cultures via her love of food. What brought her the most joy was cooking and pampering her loved ones.
Whether it was growing bean sprouts in her basement for the restaurants, processing seafood at Codfather's, working in the kitchen of various Chinese restaurants, being her daughter-in-law's eyes and ears at Sourdough's and the Root Cellar, no job was too challenging for Nee Nee. Anyone who had the privilege of working with Nee Nee knew she could outwork all, young and old.
She was a regular fixture for years as a volunteer at the Fall Fair for the Chinese Canadian Society. Amongst her friends her dim sum, baking and the Chinese vegetables from her garden were treasured.
Alternating between homes in Port Alberni and Vancouver, Nee Nee was happiest surrounded by family.
A Funeral will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 11:00 am at Chapel of Memories, 4005 6th Ave, Port Alberni, BC, with a Chinese luncheon to follow at the Lawn Bowling Club 4255 Wallace St, Port Alberni, BC.
Our special thanks and never ending gratitude to Dr. Damian White, Missy Netzer, and the West Coast General Hospital.
